Mr Clean

Project description

Mr Clean is an application dedicated to booking washing machines and tumble dryers online. Its goal is simple: to make laundrettes easier to use and let customers book a machine at the time they want, while saving the desired programme in advance.

This project was an opportunity to design an application with a consistent and effective aesthetic, while developing and expanding a design system built around a mobile-only approach. The goal is to offer a simple, intuitive and optimised user experience for all ages.

What is Mr Clean?

Everyone knows the scene: you arrive at the laundrette with your bag of laundry, and every machine is already running. Mr Clean starts from that observation. The app supports a network of laundrettes equipped with connected washing machines and tumble dryers, and lets you book your machine remotely, on the day and at the time that suit you. No more turning up on the off chance: you come when your machine is ready.

From sofa to drum

The idea goes further than simple booking. Before even leaving home, users set up their programme: temperature, load capacity, type of wash, everything they would normally set standing in front of the machine. Once on site, all that is left is to unlock it and start the cycle, paying at that point or having already paid when booking.

The app then takes over. It shows the remaining time live, then sends a notification when the laundry is ready to collect, leaving time to do something else rather than watch a porthole. And if something goes wrong, a refund system is in place.

A reassuring interface

Mr Clean is aimed at users of all ages, for an everyday task. The project was therefore designed as mobile-only and built on a consistent design system, with one priority: keeping the interface direct, legible and quick to pick up. Each step of the journey, from choosing the machine to collecting the laundry, corresponds to a clear state in the app, so users always know where they stand.

And those who come without booking?

A laundrette also welcomes walk-in customers who don't have the app. Their case was built into the thinking: they must be able to pay and start a machine on site, and that payment must update availability in the app in real time. This part was not developed in the MVP, which deliberately focuses on the app itself, but it is part of the concept.
